Sloth Sanctuary - Day 4

After breakfast, Mike and I went and stood by the dock. I looked over to my right and I saw a wild sloth. A male bradypus. You can tell it's a male by the patch on his back. What's he in search of? Why a female of course. One of the female brady's that is a resident at the sanctuary is in heat. How do you know? They make a high pitched yell. Well this boy heard the call and went in search for her.

We also met Judy today, who runs the Sanctuary, as she just got back in town. It was a real pleasure talking to her and hearing about the Sanctuary's origins, as well as how some of the sloths came to be here. Then, we were in for a real treat - we got to go see the babies who are still too young to be in the main nursery and who sleep in incubators at night to keep them nice and warm. They were about the size of my hand :)

We ended off the day with a canoe ride in the creeks running along the grounds. We got to see - and definitely hear - a whole bunch of howler monkeys. Unfortunately the sun was right behind the tree they were in, so I'll let you use your imagination as to how the videos and photos turned out ;)
